Crewe and Nantwich Canoe Club is a friendly, community-focused paddlesports club that brings together enthusiasts of canoeing and kayaking. With around 100 members across several teams, the club supports recreational paddlers, competitive racers and those learning essential river skills. Activities include flatwater and river paddling, touring trips, skills and safety training, junior development sessions and occasional competitive events. Coaches and volunteers provide structured sessions as well as social paddles and community outreach.
Based in Whitchurch (SY13 4LY), a historic market town on the Shropshire–Cheshire border with easy river access for paddling.
The club runs a varied programme to suit beginners through to experienced paddlers. Regular coached sessions focus on stroke technique, boat control, rescue and river reading. Weekend outings explore local waterways and nearby reservoirs, while some members take part in regional racing and touring expeditions. Families and juniors are welcome, and the club promotes safe, inclusive paddling through coached courses and safety briefings before trips.
To streamline administration and keep members informed, the club uses SportMember to manage teams, members and activities. SportMember helps coordinators schedule training, collect fees and track attendance so volunteers can focus on coaching and paddling rather than paperwork. The club uses several SportMember modules to run smoothly:
"SportMember has transformed how we organise sessions and payments — we're very happy with the software and how easy it is for members to stay informed."
Visitors and prospective members will find a welcoming atmosphere, structured coaching and a varied calendar of activities. The club is ideal for people who want to develop paddling skills, join group trips, or compete at a local level. With SportMember handling the admin side, joining and participating is straightforward: enquiries, sign-ups and communication are all simpler for members and coaches alike. For more information, check the club's SportMember page or contact club officers to learn about upcoming sessions and open days.
